Ercan Cesmeli graduated as a gastroenterologist at the University of Ghent in 1998.

He is currently working in Sint Lucas Hospital in Ghent as a general gastroenterologist with a special interest in pancreatic pathology.

Ultrasonography has always been a point of interest and he helped to develop the endoscopic ultrasonography unit at the University Hospital of Ghent.

He is a board member of the the Belgian Group of Digestive Ultrasonography (BGDE) and the Belgian Pancreatic club (BPC).
