Bio
Tine De Backer qualified as MD and specialized as Cardiologist-Angiologist at the Ghent University – Ghent University Hospital (UZ Ghent).
After she graduated in cardiology she has been working abroad for some years at the Thoraxcenter in Rotterdam, and at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation New York.
Between those two external residencies she has worked at the Cardiology Department of the OLV Hospital Aalst.
In 2006 she joined the Cardiology Department of UZ Ghent. She obtained her PhD with the thesis entitled: “Evidence on Pharmacological Symptomatic Treatment of Intermittent Claudication: New hope for old drugs? Hope for new drugs?”.
She is Head of Clinic at the Department of Cardiology at the University Hospital Ghent.
Besides general cardiology she has special interests in vascular diseases, resistant hypertension and ultrasound imaging. She is also active at the Heymans Institute of Pharmacology.
She is Professor at the University of Ghent. Her scientific work led to national and international abstracts, presentations and publications.
She is a member of the Belgian Society of Cardiology, the Belgian Hypertension Committee, the European Society of Cardiology, the European Society of Hypertension, the Cochrane Collaboration and the Dutch Association for Clinical Pharmacology.
She regularly reviews manuscripts for national and international peer-reviewed journals and serves as reviewer for abstracts of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Hypertension.
